Coach Aurora Trujillo

About me

Hi, I’m Aurora (she/her).

I have followed a wavy path. My coaching is informed by everything I have learnt along this path, my commitment to political, environmental and social change, my interest in understanding human nature and my personal work to get to know and change myself.

My Background

After graduating from a Philosophy degree at the University of Barcelona, I spent a couple of years teaching philosophy, ethics and politics in adult colleges in Barcelona. I then went on to complete an MA in Values and the Environment at Lancaster University, followed by a PhD in Environmental Politics at Reading University. My PhD explored how liberalism facilitates or prevents sustainable lifestyles.

When I was completing my MA, I fell in love with cycling again, after not having cycled since childhood. As well as going on many cycling holidays in the Lake District, I toured the country campaigning for a less car-centric society with Bicycology, a grassroots activist collective.

After finishing my PhD, I set up, alongside two others, Freewheelers Bicycle Workshop, a workers’ co-operative the aim of which was to make cycling more accessible to those who identified as women. We offered women only maintenance courses, a tool club and sold second hand bikes and affordable bike parts and accessories.

Building on that experience, I worked for the London Cycling Campaign co-ordinating a programme of grants for community projects promoting cycling in London. I then took my community development and grant funding skills to the National Lottery Community Fund, where I worked on the Reaching Communities programme. During my time at the Fund, Reaching Communities’ ambition was to become more accessible to grassroots organisations embedded in the community.

Over the years, I have also been involved in a variety of local and national campaigns and I have reflected about the role of activism and social change in our personal lives and how to make campaigning more sustainable for those involved.
